New grant scheme to help Wychavon schools provide meals

Wychavon District Council is helping local schools provide meals for children through a new grant scheme.

The Breakfast Club Grant has been made available to schools within the district and offers up to £2,000 in funding to cover the period between now and the end of term.

The grant, which will benefit anyone of school age, will support breakfast clubs and the provision of a snack in school time for free school meal eligible children.

It will also help provide wrap around care food for all ages, which includes before and after school care.

Over the past 12 months, there has been an increase in children eligible for free school meals of around 350 in Wychavon.

The aim of the grant is to help close the gap between the most disadvantaged young people and their peers.

Cllr Bradley Thomas, Leader of Wychavon District Council, said: “We are so pleased to be able to provide the Breakfast Club Grant to schools across the Wychavon District. This is a difficult time for everyone and no child or young person should go hungry. This grant will provide that extra support to those who need it most”.

Schools can apply for the Breakfast Club Grant by emailing leonie.silk@wychavon.gov.uk before 13 November.
