Ultrafast Broadband Update – February 2022
We are pleased to announce that we now have confirmation from both Openreach and Worcestershire County Council that sufficient people have signed up to the Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) vouchers to enable the design and building of the infrastructure to get the full Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) scheme to go ahead. This will take place over the next few months and if all goes according to plan we hope the scheme will be fully in place prior to the end of this year
For those of you that have not received the voucher emails from the Department of Culture Media and Sport, clarification is now being sought on our behalf by Worcestershire County Council as to whether further vouchers are needed for you to sign up to. Despite this we have been reassured that you remain within the scheme.
Things will probably go quiet for a while but we will update you when we hear more.

Latest Update on Erection of New Lychgate
As many of you will have seen, the erection of the timber frame of the new Lychgate is now well under way. The frame has been constructed from green oak using traditional methods, as can be seen from the drilled and pegged joints. The timber has been treated with UV resistant oil which will preserve the natural rich colour and texture of the wood and prevent it fading to grey over time.

The next stage will be the addition of the roof using the original roof tiles which have been stored safely off-site. The internal sarking boards will be finished in a similar colour as the frame. It is hoped that all work will be completed over the coming days.
Progress on Lychgate Replacement
As you will see from these pictures, construction of the main timber structure of the new Lychgate is now well underway at a specialist joinery company. It is hoped that this will be installed during February, with replacement of the original roof tiles to follow. We anticipate that the repairs will be completed by the end of March at the latest.

FLADBURY PARISH COUNCIL
The Parish Council was advised yesterday (Thursday) that a planning application has been submitted to Wychavon District Council by Lonestar Land. The application relates to land fronting on to Broadway Lane and adjacent to and immediately south of Llewellyn Close.
The application is for 34 affordable homes consisting of the following:-
8 x I bedroom flats
9 x 2 bedroom houses
11 x 3 bedroom houses
4 x 1 bedroom bungalows
2 x 2 bedroom bungalows
The full details of the application and all the associated documents can be found on the Wychavon website with the planning reference 21/02924/FUL.
The Parish Council is reviewing all the documents submitted with the application and has requested and has been granted an extension to the consultation period to January 31st. This will enable us to carry out any research relating to all the aspects of this application.
In addition, we plan to consult the village on this application but as a public meeting in the Village Hall may not be possible early in January due to the pandemic, we may have to conduct this consultation through a Zoom public meeting conference – we will keep you informed.

Donations welcome in Fladbury Church porch – please ring Christine Farrell 861869 for further information.

FLADBURY PARISH COUNCIL
The December meeting – Omicron permitting – will be held on Monday, December 13th at 7.00 pm. This is a ‘one-off’ change of date (we are normally the third Monday of the month) due to the proximity of Christmas.
We are not allowed by Government diktat to meet by Zoom anymore but we do practice sensible precautions – mask wearing, social distancing, sanitising etc – so if any member of the public wishes to attend, please let us know in advance so we can adopt any measures necessary to accommodate you.
After the holidays we will provide a full update on the Minerals Policy, the future of the field, the Nait and the Mill and the results of the ‘snapshot’ future housing survey.
A very happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas and New Year to you all.

FLADBURY FLOW
11 months of planning, getting back together, meeting up with old friends and making new friends all created a beautiful community project called the Fladbury Flow. Last week, we finally dismantled the River of Poppies. They will now be repurposed and continue a different journey of Remembrance. The Fladbury Flow embraced friendship, family and history. This is how we never forget. This is how we pass history on to the future. Together we have honoured those who have served our country and together we have celebrated 100 years of the Royal British legion Poppy Appeal.
A massive thank you to every knitter, crocheter, stitcher, tutor, cake maker and helper. You made this all possible. You made the Fladbury Flow happen. And we have just got the total amount raised from the Fladbury Flow for the Royal British Legion – £1,360.11
Thank you from Angela and Elaine xx (and thanks again to Angela and Elaine for the idea!)

Heard on Radio 4, to help prevent or reduce covid…..

· Keep socially distanced – a bit difficult
· Make sure confined spaces are well-ventilated – could be uncomfortable but better safe than sorry! And now it’s even more urgent to get boosted….

Finally …..
Two people contacted me to say they would like to help with KIT but not at the moment. And then John Powell said “I will take on KIT”. He was rather disappointed that I seem to express shock but it was the surprise I had that someone had offered – and that it was John who loves living in Fladbury, at the top of Paynes Lane, and I am delighted – thank you John!
The handover is now happening so future information for KIT needs to be emailed to fladburykit@gmail.com or phone John on 07776 063252. The December KIT will include a bit of January so the deadline for the January KIT is Wednesday 5 January with the hope of circulation by Saturday 9 January.
I do thank everyone who has contributed to and circulated and delivered and read KIT since the first weekly edition at the beginning of the first lockdown – then Keeping In Touch. After 84 weekly publications, it went monthly in September. It is emailed to many people in Fladbury and to some people in neighbouring villages. If you do not wish your email address to be stored by fladburykit@gmail.com please let me know.Otherwise you will continue to receive KIT and hopefully read it and may be contribute to it.
With every good wish for a Happy Christmas season in our village community or further afield and very best wishes for 2022,
With love, Jane X (tel: 860531, email: pjbugg@btinternet.com )

The Charlton Broadband Team can confirm that emails have been sent out from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to everyone who signed up for this project confirming the offer of a Gigabit voucher. Please can everyone who has received an email from the DCMS urgently confirm their agreement to redeem the voucher by responding to the email. This will allow the funding to be awarded to us. Please check your Spam folders if you don’t think you have received the email.
Thank you to everyone who has actioned their email so far, but we do need everyone on the mailing list to respond ASAP.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via email at broadband@charlton-worcestershire.org.uk, and we will endeavour to support you.
Further Update on Ultrafast Broadband Scheme 18th November 2021 – DCMS Emails
Now that our scheme has finally been approved by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), everyone who signed up to the scheme should now have received an email with the headline: “UK Gigabit Voucher Scheme – action required”. You should follow the link in the email to confirm your details and that you wish to proceed with the scheme in order that a voucher towards the costs can be issued. Please be aware that if you do not give your agreement within 28 days of this email, DCMS may cancel your supplier’s request for a voucher.
Please note that this is just the first stage in the scheme to fund Openreach to install the optical fibre cables throughout the Village necessary to enable Ultrafast Broadband to be offered by a number of ISPs (Internet Service Providers), for example, BT, EE, Plusnet etc. Other ISPs are likely to offer similar deals once the fibre network is in place. Your current contract will not be impacted until the cabling is in place and your ISP offers you a new deal to upgrade your Broadband speed. Costs will be confirmed by your ISP when this offer is made.
Anyone who is interested in joining the scheme but has yet to sign up can register at:
broadband@charlton-worcestershire.org.uk
You will need to provide the following details:
Name, Address, Telephone number & Email address
Business name if appropriate, and also the company registration number if a Limited Company
For sole traders we also need your Unique Tax Reference number.
Please note, we have confirmation from Openreach that no-one who signs up for the scheme will have to pay VAT.

Update on Repairs to Cemetery Lychgate
A new joinery firm has been selected by our contractors, Snape Construction. Materials availability is still likely to have an impact on the timescale for manufacture and installation of the new frame and roof, but the current best estimate is completion of all repairs by early Spring 2022.
In the meantime, access via the newly rebuilt walls is still possible.

FLADBURY PARISH COUNCIL
· Fladbury Mill, Field and Nait. At the recent public meeting held in the Village Hall, we updated the village on the situation regarding the Mill and its surrounding land since David Wynn first indicated his desire to gift the field and the Nait to the village. Since those discussions began, the pandemic has intervened and sadly David passed away in July. In his will he has left the Mill itself to the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (www.spab.org.uk). This charity is the UK’s oldest specialising in historic buildings having been founded over 140 years ago.
The field and the Nait have been left to the village and the Parish Council and we have to prepare a management plan to be agreed by the estate’s executors. We sought the support of the community and the 100+ people at the meeting unanimously provided their agreement to prepare such a plan and that is now underway.
The process of probate will take some months and in the meantime, the Mill, the field and the Nait remain in the ownership of the estate and the Nait itself will remain closed for the time being.
The presentation delivered at the meeting will be available on the village website and hopefully the village Facebook page.
· Wrubble Planning Application. The application to establish an aggregates recycling plant on the old mushroom farm site next to the crematorium has been approved by the County Council. This was despite the protestations of Wychavon and the objections lodged by the Parish Council, the crematorium operators and the glasshouse business, EVG. In our view this was simply the wrong place for a business that will inevitably create noise, dust and be a visual blot on the landscape. The HGV traffic generated will also be problematic and the site’s proximity to the crematorium and the residents immediately to the north of the site will result in a considerable impact on the garden of remembrance and the families living close by.
· Housing Development. If you haven’t returned your snapshot survey on future housing, please do so, in order that we can understand your views on how our community might develop in the future
· Next Meeting – 7pm on Monday 15 November in the Pavilion

POLICING from Ian Baldry – Fladbury Neighbourhood Watch
Ladies and Gents
P.C. Paul Brown who until recently has been the Safer Neighbourhood officer for Fladbury has been transferred across to Broadway to be replaced by P.C. Ben Trowman.
I recently had the pleasure of being introduced to Ben Trowman by Paul. Ben has been a police officer for 21 years having served the last 5 years with the West Mercia Police. His most recent appointment has been working as a Rural and Business Crime Officer; with his current speciality being a Wildlife Crime Officer (WCO).
Prior to joining the Police Service, Ben was a retained fire fighter for 10 years based in Broadway being the recipient of the Fire Brigade medal for Outstanding Service following the rescue of 36 people.
Married for 19 years with two children, Ben is also a very keen cyclist. Do not be surprised if you meet him in the village on his bicycle familiarising himself with the area!!!
I am sure that you will all join me in extending a very warm welcome to P.C. Ben Trowman and our thanks and best wishes to P.C.Paul Brown.
If you need to send an email to Ben his email address is ben.trowman@westmercia.pnn.police.uk. If he is off duty there will be an inevitable delay in responding. If you also copy the email to eveshamtsrw.snt@westmercia.pnn.police.uk this will ensure that another member of the Safer Neighbourhood Team will pick it up in his absence and if necessary respond accordingly.
TABLE TENNIS
Table Tennis is played on a super new table tennis table in the Village Hall during Games Cafe on Wednesday mornings. If you would like to use it at other times, please contact Games Cafe Organiser Sally Hutchinson on 861206.
Prior to the new table, table tennis was played on a table I rescued from a skip. This is now available for use somewhere else and needs removing from its present home in Louise Craske’s garage. It is two large flat wood boards, stored flat, with simple metal frames to support it when in use. If you are interested in having it in your garden or garage, please let me know – Jane on 860531. If no-one wants it, we shall be seeking help in disposing of it!
And non-one seems to want it so will someone please help us dispose of it?
