CHURCH NEWS

Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. We shall be pleased to welcome you to our “online” services on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Day, and all Sunday services. Please let me, Sarah, know priest@five-alive.co.uk; if you would like to receive the Zoom links for each. All these services including the reflections are available for printing from the Five Alive website. They can be read individually at home.

Sunday 28th March at 5.00pm – Palm Sunday – A Service of readings, prayer, and music.

Thursday 1st April at 6.00pm – Maundy Thursday – Supper at Home with readings, prayer, and music. It has long been a tradition in the Five Alive for small groups to gather in homes on Maundy Thursday evening to share a simple meal together and to read the gospel account of Jesus’ Last Supper with his friends; and then to reassemble in church to continue the act of remembrance before Good Friday. This year, we are all invited to sit down at table at 6.00pm with a bowl of soup and bread, individually at home, and together “online” via Zoom for a short service of readings, prayer, and music.

Friday 2nd April at 2.00pm – Good Friday – A Service for Good Friday – readings, prayer, and music.

Sunday 4th April at 5.00pm – Easter Day – Praying Together on Sunday at 5’ – readings, prayer, and music.

All five churches will be open for individual private prayer (10.00am to 4.00pm) on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Eve, Easter Day, and Easter Monday. Churches will have an Easter Garden and modest flower decorations for Easter Day. We hope you will find comfort when coming into church during this time.

It is our hope and intention to return to public worship on Sunday 25th April. We look forward to a time thereafter to enjoy each other’s company socially and “in person” again.

Revd Sarah, Parish Wardens and Wardens

FLADBURY VILLAGE EVENT –

Zoom Meeting on Wednesday 31st March

As discussed, it has been decided that our beloved Walkabout has had to be cancelled for the second year. This decision was taken reluctantly back in January as there was too much uncertainty about how the Covid situation might progress during the year. Nevertheless, it was agreed that to have a FLADBURY VILLAGE EVENT on that July weekend would be something for us all to look forward to and give us the chance to celebrate our community. To consider what this event might look like, we have a Zoom meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 31st March at 7.00 pm. If you have not received that invitation but would like to join the meeting, please let Steve or me know and we can forward it to you.

We will be looking for ideas for activities and events to be held outside during that weekend so put your thinking caps on and either email them to us or come along to the meeting.

From Walkabout Co-Chair Steve Curtis and Ian Southcott

GARDENING

·         For the gardeners amongst you I can’t recommend highly enough a climber called Cobaea Scandens or Cup and Saucer Vine. I’ve been growing these from seed for several years as they’re rarely seen in garden centres. Monty Don has started copying me and often gives them a mention. They have a spread of 5m or more and look great on a trellis, fence or gazebo. They also attract bees. I have surplus seed left from last year if anyone wants some or alternatively I’ll be offering plants for free in a few weeks time. Read more about them here if you wish – https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobaea_scandens

Furniture donations – an article in the Evesham Journal says that Roundabout, the furniture re-use charity in Blackminster, is appealing for donations of essential items for those in need during lockdown. Items need to be in good condition, re-usable, suitable for modern small houses or flats and with fire safety labels where appropriate. Roundabout staff collect suitable items in a covid secure manner. For further information, go to www.roundaboutevesham.org.uk or email manager@roundaboutevesham.org.uk

Kat Powles of Woodward Parks is a Wychavon local litter picker and more are applying! If you want to know more, email Kat on email katrinapowles@gmail.com  or telephone 861380.

CHAIR YOGA

I’m trying to gauge how much interest there would be for a chair Yoga, Zoom Yoga session – initially at this stage, a one-off session with a view to more, depending on interest. There is so much you can still do from a chair which can be extremely beneficial to someone who has reduced mobility. At a time when it’s even more difficult to get out and exercise it will be useful but also an opportunity for those who perhaps aren’t able to see others at the mo, a friendly group to join while having a nice stretch. Please do contact me if you are interested

Carly Wickens of Broadway Lane – phone 07876193655 or  yoga@carlywickens.co.uk
