FLADBURY PARISH COUNCIL

Fladbury – Station Road – Works and Closures

Severn Trent

A leak has been evident at the junction of Station Road and Weston Orchard for some months. Initially, WCC Highways and Severn Trent could not agree who was responsible for remedying this situation. Eventually, Severn Trent took ownership and after some investigation, located the cause a little further north up Station Road.

Unfortunately, their decision to begin the work was not accompanied by the necessary paperwork to announce a closure. Nevertheless, work commenced on Tuesday and the road reopened on Thursday morning.

WCC Highways

The Parish Council have been in discussion with WCC for some months on the PC’s request for the area just north of the railway bridge to be surfaced and kerbed. The area is uneven, often puddled and muddy and unsightly. WCC wanted to upgrade the footway all the way from the bridge to the A44 which the PC thought unnecessary and expensive when all that was required was some edging out of the grass to widen the path on most of the route. Eventually, it was agreed that the work just north of the bridge was all that was needed and required.

Work has been scheduled for Thursday, March 11th and should last three days. Confirmation is being sought as to whether the work is therefore Thursday, Friday and Saturday or Thursday, Friday, Monday; the former only includes two school days, the latter, a weekend.

Although traffic lights were requested by the PC instead of a full closure, the location, the width of the road and a footway on only one side dictate a full closure for safety reasons.

To help the process, the closure will only be in force from 8.45 am until 2.45 pm. This should allow access to the school and for residents commuting to get in and out of the village. Within these hours, only residents within the work area, are allowed access to their properties and they will need to make themselves known to the traffic management operatives on site. For everybody else the road will be closed within these times.

Walking through the works area will be permitted.

Please be patient – everything is being done to facilitate residents during this short period of working. The end result should be an improvement of the area.

A quiz

Thanks to Andrew Hughes who emailed “I notice that there hadn’t been a quiz in KIT for a while, so I have attached one to keep us all occupied in the last few weeks of lockdown (hopefully). It’s taken from the Telegraph, so if the are any local readers they may have an unfair advantage!”.

Jigsaw Puzzles – please note…..

Another word puzzle  – sent in my John Prichard – see how many words you can create from – P –  IEEHDRLS. Rules – the first letter has to be used in each word, minimum of 3 letters per word, each letter can only be used only once in a word, no plurals allowed. Target (in 3 minutes) – Fair 20, Good 32, Very Good 45, Excellent 58. Has anyone ever achieved excellence? These puzzles are available from www.wordwheels.co.uk

Paint a Pebble – and put it on show them up the Church path or somewhere round  the village and share beauty and creativity and skill and words of peace and joy and hope and  love and thankfulness – let’s do it!  My neighbour, Carol Worthington, has done some beautiful patterns and gave me this link – https://www.facebook.com/groups/660711497845359/?ref=share. Basically, says Carol, find a rock, wash it, paint it, seal it.  There are lots of designs these days on the internet, Facebook, you tube or off a photo. Using acrylic paints – or you can even use paint pens – paint the rock with your design. Try and varnish  it to make it weather proof and to stop the paint falling off. – use pva. Modge podge or a spray varnish.  When the shops are open, B&M and pound shops and The Range are good for art supplies

GARDENING

Moyagh Hemming spotted a yellow Brimstone Butterfly in her garden in Station Road. Let’s hope we see more and more butterflies. Any tips for plants which butterflies like?

Roll of bags

High visibility vest

She volunteered to do Woodward Parks! But she and her two young children, Griff and Constance, have already done a little more – Kat is trying to find suitable equipment for children to use.

Please contact Kat if you would like to know more – email or tel: 861380 – and perhaps volunteer to pick up litter in another street – sadly there will be a greater need as the weather improves – but we want the weather to improve!

CHAIR YOGA

I’m trying to gauge how much interest there would be for a chair Yoga, Zoom Yoga session – initially at this stage, a one-off session with a view to more, depending on interest. There is so much you can still do from a chair which can be extremely beneficial to someone who has reduced mobility. At a time when it’s even more difficult to get out and exercise it will be useful but also an opportunity for those who perhaps aren’t able to see others at the mo, a friendly group to join while having a nice stretch. Please do contact me if you are interested

Carly Wickens of Broadway Lane – phone 07876193655 or  yoga@carlywickens.co.uk
