New Ultrafast Broadband Project for Charlton Village

The current broadband service in our area is simply not good enough for most people’s requirements. Since there is currently no formal plan for improvement, a small group of local residents and business owners is looking to undertake a Community Project, which will be supported by the Superfast Worcestershire Broadband Team. If successful, this will bring a fibre to the premises, (FTTP), ultrafast broadband, network to our community. The Parish Council fully supports this scheme.

Ultrafast broadband network, delivered via an optical fibre cable infrastructure to the premises, is capable of offering far faster speeds, depending on a suitable broadband supplier and package. We are looking to utilise Government grants, (the Rural Gigabit voucher scheme), to fully pay for the required works. Access to the full fibre technology would therefore offer a future-proofed solution and speeds many times faster, (again depending on chosen supplier and package), than the current infrastructure.

The area under consideration for the project is outlined in red in the illustration below (residential properties coloured green, businesses coloured red):

A similar scheme covering properties in Haselor Lane and Boston Lane has already been approved and will beging implementation in 2021.

If you have not already signed up to confirm your interest please send an email to:

Broadband@charlton-worcestershire.org.uk

with the following information: Your Name, Address, Telephone number, Email address, Business name if appropriate and also the company registration number if a Limited Company. For sole traders we also need your Unique Tax Reference number.

A letter describing the new project in detail will be delivered to all properties within the red outline above.

COSRA 100 Club Membership Renewal

Since lockdown the Old Schoolroom has had no income therefore the money raised from 100 Club is needed more than ever.  Please renew as soon as possible and no later than Saturday 8th August.  If insufficient numbers have been taken up and paid for by that date we will have to consider not running 100 Club.

The £500 that goes into the renovation and refurbishment fund will also enable the trustees to keep up a reasonable balance of funds for unexpected repairs.  Planning permission has been granted for an extension which was due to be built this summer.  Obviously, this has been delayed.  Another major project will be the resurfacing of the drive.

Please continue to help.

There are some numbers available for the 2020/21 year.  Cost to you £10 per number cash or a cheque made payable to Joseph Baker Workman Trust. Post through my letterbox and remember to put your name on please.

The first draw will be in September.

Please advise Diane Barlow if you want to be reminded of your numbers.

Village Halls Week 2020

Charlton Old Schoolroom Open Day and Village History Exhibition

To celebrate the 140th anniversary of the opening of Charlton Old Schoolroom in 1880 and as part of National Village Halls Week 2020, an open day was held in the Old Schoolroom on Saturday 25th January from 11:00am ~ 3:00pm at which an illustrated exhibition of the history of the village from prehistoric times to the present day was on display.

This event also provided an opportunity for everyone in the village to see the improvements already made to the schoolroom building over the last two years and to see what plans we have for the future.
